The Ashes
well Australia keeps getting them
born in the wind from the high country
always seems to happen
maybe the hot summer
and the long drought, too much
poor England, simply no warning
no fire in their belly
couldn’t light a match
left out in the cold again
shivering five times shattered
and then back to bleak old England –
it just ain’t cricket

Footnote ….
the actual words on the Ashes Urn …
When Ivo goes back with the urn, the urn;
Studds, Steel, Read and Tylecote return, return;
The welkin will ring loud,
The great crowd will feel proud,
Seeing Barlow and Bates with the urn, the urn;
And the rest coming home with the urn.
