Fathers and Sons
(based on the poem by David Campbell below)
the brash boys we dated
are in their forties,
their handsome sons
have stolen their strength;
and with arrogant stride
in cool contempt,
they flaunt their fathers’ wisdom
with their fathers’ features.
Richard Scutter
Mothers and Daughters
the cruel girls we loved
are over forty,
their subtle daughters
have stolen their beauty;
and with a blue stare
of cool surprise,
they mock their anxious mothers
with their mothers’ eyes.
